The northernmost State of our country, Jammu and Kashmir is known for its breathtaking beauty and scenic natures. The sixth largest state in India, Jammu and Kashmir is divided into three divisions; Jammu, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh. The area is covered with snow-capped mountains most time of the year adding to the mesmerizing beauty of the state. It has two capitals- Jammu, the winter capital and Srinagar, the summer capital. Jammu and Kashmir is surrounded by the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south. It shares an international border with the People’s Republic of China to the north and east and the Pakistan-administered territories of Azad Kashmir to the west and Gilgit – Baltistan in the northwest.



Jammu which is the winter capital of the state is known for its beautiful temples, museums and the world famous Dal lake. When the city was founded in the 14th century, the king wanted to build a place where everyone could lead a peaceful life. The most visited tourist destination in Jammu, The dal lake is an icon of the Kashmir tourism industry. Considered one of the most beautiful lakes in India, it has gained wide popularity among Indian film directors for location of songs and dance sequences. The state is at its beautiful best during winters with the snow-capped mountains and colorful gardens earning the title of ‘Paradise on Earth’. The beautiful houseboats made from cedar wood are the greatest attractions of Kashmir. These elegant water boats act as homes as well as a means of transportation for many localities in the area.
